ASSAY - Independent digital advisor

Everything you pay for online
tested by someone who sells you none of it.

Everyone you could ask about your website makes their living from the answer. I don’t — I make mine from the test.

ASSAY - Independent digital advisor

I don't sell you the work I recommend

assay/əˈseɪ/ NOUN & VERB

The independent test that establishes what a material genuinely contains — as opposed to what the person selling it says it contains.

No build work for advisory clients. No commission, referral fees or kickbacks from any supplier I put in front of you. The moment I’m quoting on the rebuild, my opinion on whether you need a rebuild is worth nothing — not because agencies are dishonest, but because nobody alive can be a fair judge of their own invoice. If the right answer is that you should spend nothing this quarter, that’s what you’ll hear.

Existing websites

A site that’s running, agencies and platforms taking money every month, and no way to tell what’s working. I test all of it and tell you what’s earning its place and what isn’t.

New builds

Quotes ranging from five thousand rand to two hundred thousand for what sounds like the same brief. I establish what you actually need and read every quote against it.

Ongoing

The digital channel owned by someone senior — roadmap, suppliers, spend and performance — for one or two days a week rather than a salary.

Who you'd be working with

I've spent ten years building the things I now assess.

Websites mostly — from WordPress and Shopify through to bespoke builds — for businesses here and abroad. Which means I’ve written the quotes I now review, built the sites I now audit, and run the campaigns I now read the numbers on. I know which line items are real and what’s genuinely difficult as opposed to what’s being described as difficult.
